The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has announced the Emerging Talent Certificate in Computer and Data Science programme for 2024/2025.
This programme, designed for learners worldwide, offers an online educational opportunity aimed at transforming lives, especially for those from marginalised communities.
What is the MIT Emerging Talent Certificate in Computer and Data Science?
The MIT Emerging Talent Certificate in Computer and Data Science (CDS) is a one-year online course.
It opens pathways to education and employment for refugees, migrants, first-generation low-income learners, and others from underserved communities.
This programme aims to help you build essential skills in computer and data science while offering a chance for personal growth and career development.
Foundations Track for Learners
For the 2024/2025 cohort, the programme starts with a new Foundations Track.
This track begins in mid-November 2024 and lasts for two months.
It covers basic skills such as digital literacy, mathematics, key human skills, and the fundamentals of computer science.
After completing the Foundations Track, some learners will advance to the full Certificate programme.
This phase includes in-depth learning in computer science and data science, featuring courses from MITx, hands-on projects, and access to a global mentorship network.
The Certificate programme will prepare you for a successful future in technology.
No Financial Costs for Students
This opportunity is free of charge.
MIT covers all programme expenses, including exam fees and certificates.
Participants only need access to a computer and a reliable internet connection.
If this presents a challenge, MIT offers support.
Who Can Apply?
This programme welcomes refugees, internally displaced individuals, and anyone affected by forced migration from any location globally.
Priority spots are reserved for women and those with refugee or asylee status.
Additional spots are available for low-income first-generation learners.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old to participate.
Due to OFAC sanctions, MIT cannot accept applications from those residing in Iran, Cuba, Syria, North Korea, or the affected areas in Ukraine.
However, learners from these countries living elsewhere may apply.
Required Time and Technology
The programme requires 20 hours per week of study.
Participants must have a computer that runs on Microsoft Windows, Apple OSX, or Linux.
This is essential for completing the coursework, downloading software, and participating in live workshops.
Applicants must ensure access to the internet for approximately 10 hours per week.
Even if access to a computer or internet is limited, this will not affect your eligibility to apply.
