Bauchi university union threatens strike over unpaid salaries

The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, has issued an ultimatum for an indefinite strike unless the federal government settles over 38 months of outstanding entitlements. The union is demanding the payment of various allowances, including 38 months of responsibility allowance, seven months of Occupational Hazard arrears, and five months of unpaid salaries.

The union’s chairman, Bashir Zwall, warned that academic activities, including workshops, labs, and farms, will be shut down if the demands are not met. Zwall criticized the government’s failure to address the issue despite repeated appeals, resulting in severe hardships for members. He also urged the National Assembly, parents, and stakeholders to intervene and press the government to release the funds and avoid further disruption to academic activities. The union’s protest included placards with slogans like “PAY US OUR 12 MONTHS 25/35% ARREARS” and “PAY US OUR WITHHELD SALARY.”
