Programme Overview

The Remedial/Pre-Degree Programme is designed to provide a strong academic base for qualified candidates. This intensive year-long programme includes preparatory courses and requires passing the school’s examinations. Candidates who excel and meet the University’s UTME cut-off points will be considered for admission into various degree programmes.

Admission Opportunities

Successful candidates may gain admission into several faculties, including Agriculture, Arts, Education, Engineering, Environmental Science, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.

Top 30 students in the SPS final exams may be admitted to highly competitive courses such as Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Optometry, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Economics, Accounting, Banking and Finance, English Language, and more, except for MB;BS and LAW.

Admission Eligibility

Who Can Apply?

This programme is primarily for candidates from the catchment states of the University of Ilorin (Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, and Zamfara). However, candidates from other states are also welcome and encouraged to apply.

Where and When?

  • Venue: School of Preliminary Studies, Fufu, Ilorin South Local Government Headquarters, Kwara State.
  • Duration: Two semesters (one academic year).

Detailed Admission Requirements

Arts and Arts Education

  • Five credit-level subjects in SSCE/GCE from WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB.
  • Two subjects must be from Arts; others can be from Social Sciences.
  • Credit grades in English Language and Mathematics are required.

Sciences and Technology

  • Credit grades in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
  • Faculty of Agriculture accepts Agricultural Science instead of Biology.

Social Sciences

  • Credit grades in English Language, Mathematics, and three subjects from Economics, Government, Geography, or Commerce.
  • Department of Psychology requires a credit grade in Biology.

General Admission Conditions

  • Credit pass in a minimum of three O’ Level subjects to apply; the remaining subjects must be completed before university admission.
  • Engineering candidates need credit grades in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics at O’ Level.
  • All candidates must write the 2024 UTME with relevant subject combinations and meet the University cut-off points.

Note: Remedial results can be banked for use the following year if the candidate does not meet the current year’s UTME cut-off point. The programme is residential.

How to Apply

Method of Application

Visit the University of Ilorin website and follow the link for the 2024/2025 Remedial Application. A non-refundable fee of ₦15,000.00 is required. After completing the online form, download a Local Government Confirmation Form and have it endorsed by local government officials.

Lectures commence on Monday, 21st October 2024.
