ABU Senate commends six staff for making list of top scientists analysed by Stanford varsity, Elsevier

The Senate of Ahmadu Bello University has commended six staff members of the institution for making the list of top 2% scientists in the world analysed by Stanford University and Elsevier.

The commendation was contained in the Senate Resolutions of the 540th (Regular) meeting held on Thursday, 26th September, 2024.

The feat is an improvement over the 2023 list on which four staff members of the University featured.

Prof. Mohammed Shafiu of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy with world ranked position 154,113 and Prof. Jha Basant Kumar of the Department of Mathematics (world ranked position 186,230) are among the staff members from the University who made the list.

Others are, Dr. Mohammed Auwal Ibrahim, Department of Biochemistry (world ranked position 339,682); Dr. Aliyu Alhaji, Department of Community Medicine (world ranked position 435,376); Prof. Mu’awiya Babale Sufiyan, Department of Community Medicine (world ranked position 621,051); and Prof. Joseph Olusegun Ayo, Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology (world ranked position 729,525).

Similarly, the University Senate acknowledged with immense appreciation the winning of the 3rd position in the African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) National Essay Competition which placed the institution in the position for the first time.

It also noted with the gratitude the winning of the Bankole Olumide Scholarship award and the receipt of two million Naira donated to the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology by an alumnus of the department.

The Senate further noted with satisfaction the institutionalisation of a prize in honour of Prof. Clara L. Ejembi of the Department of Community Medicine by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

Equally, it congratulated some staff members whose promotions to the ranks of Professor and Reader/Principal Research Fellow were announced at the Senate.
