The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri has appointed Dr. Basillia Igbokwe as its 9th substantive rector.

Dr. Igbokwe has outlined several areas of focus aimed at transforming the polytechnic:
- Staff Welfare: A top priority is ensuring the well-being of both teaching and non-teaching staff.
- Fight Against Malpractices: The new rector plans to tackle issues such as malpractices, extortion, and lateness to duty.
- Campus Cleanliness and Security: A vow to restore cleanliness and curb vices like cultism and indecent dressing on campus.
- ICT and Smart Campus: Promoting the Smart Campus Initiative and enhancing the polytechnic’s use of ICT.
Economic and Social Development Plans
In addition to improving the academic environment, Dr. Igbokwe is committed to boosting the polytechnic’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Key initiatives include reviving the institution’s tissue and table water production facilities, and expanding the polytechnic’s fishery and poultry projects.
She also promised to link the polytechnic to the national power grid for more reliable electricity, which will further enhance campus life.

Henry Ikoro, Chairman of the 15th Governing Council, applauded the smooth success of the inauguration, crediting it to divine intervention.
He voiced optimism that the new rector, along with the entire polytechnic team, will elevate the institution to new heights.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the other contenders, reminding them that while only one person can lead at a time, they are all highly qualified.
