Description For 2025 Scholarship In Wastewater Treatment At Chalmers University of Technology

As a post-doctoral researcher, you will join our Wastewater Management and Environmental Biotechnology research group, collaborating with senior researchers and a project assistant. This project focuses on advancing wastewater treatment through the integration of an aerobic granular sludge (AGS) process with a bioelectrochemical sensor for volatile fatty acid (VFA) measurement, optimizing the performance of AGS systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting independent research within a collaborative team.
  • Operating an AGS pilot plant to evaluate nitrogen and phosphorus removal and granulation properties under varying VFA levels.
  • Using molecular biology techniques and bioinformatics tools to assess microbial community responses to VFA availability.
  • Testing bioelectrochemical-based sensors for dynamically controlling the anaerobic feeding phase.
  • Contributing to teaching at undergraduate and master’s levels, as well as supervising students.
  • Building a research track record that supports future opportunities in academia, industry, or the public sector.
